About

Everything you need to know about me is in the pages of this blog. But let me explain the purpose I have in writing it.

I am an avid C.S. Lewis fan, with a penchant for the achingly mysterious, the unreachable beauties that somewhere I believe I must reach, and a profound faith in the Known Unknown. Find him, and you’ve found all — but I warn you, you will spend your whole life searching for him.

Then, isn’t it worth it, if it’s really the one thing we’re here for? Is there any other reason to be alive, or anything else that gives all of life meaning? If there was no underlying purpose to Frodo’s steps toward Mount Doom, wouldn’t it all have been a waste? What would have been the point of all the depths of beauty he encountered on the way, or all the evil he struggled past? What would have been the simple goodness of the Shire, or the House of Tom Bombadil?

If there is no ultimate point behind your steps, then what is the point in taking them? And yet, I defy anyone to say there is nothing transcending every moment, holding it together, giving them a reason to pursue the next moment.

And let me ask you this: if the aching beauties deep in our imagination and memory are nothing but echoes … what are they echoing? I cannot believe they are without a source any more than I can believe a reflection isn’t the shadow cast by some real thing.

That Real Thing, that Surpassing Beauty, is what I will pursue until I die.
